About

D’Net Layton has taught piano for fifteen years, and voice for 10 years. She earned a Bachelors degree in Choral Music Education from Northern Arizona University in 1995. After graduation, D’Net taught chorus at the Junior High level and elementary general music. After taking a year off teaching in the public schools when her daughter was born, D’Net taught music, show choir, and drama at Eagleridge, an enrichment program for home schooled students offered by the Mesa School district.

Upon the addition of three more children to her family, D’Net devoted her time to her children and teaching privately in her home. She currently has a large studio of piano and voice students.

In addition to teaching piano and voice lessons, D’Net is also actively involved in her church. She is the director for the children’s music time, and often plays the organ and accompanies soloists.

In her free time, D’Net enjoys playing with her children and scrapbooking.

  1. I am impressed with your website. Great work. One question – how did you get permission to use the Eoyore character? Isn’t it copyrighted?

  2. Hi D’Net, I found out about your web site through the piano teacher’s forum. It is a very interesting web site. I have been teaching piano for over 25 year and published the I Can Do It! Piano Book, First Book of Favorite Songs. You can see it at http://www.kapokpress.com. I think it might interest you because it teaches easy songs to beginners in a friendly, non-stressful format.. It is developed for use with beginners, before they learn to read notation. I would be happy to send you a complementary copy to try out with a beginner.
Thank you for your hard work on this site.
    Warm regards,
    Christine Bemko Kril, NCTM

  3. Your hard work is GREATLY appreciated. I teach HS general music with several students who have never seen music or played instruments, and these games and resources are really great. Surprisingly, the students even at the HS level enjoy them! Thanks so much for sharing!!!!

  4. D’Net, I just found your site and I am so grateful and excited to use some of your great game and flashcard ideas with my students. I am just starting to teach piano lessons in Southern Utah. I am LDS as well and love your simplified versions of the Primary songs. Thank you so much for your sharing your creativity and talent!
Do you have any books that you would suggest I read to help me in starting to teach piano? By chance do you know of any piano teachers here in the St. George area that would be good for me to continue learning with? Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated! My dream would be to one day have a studio like yours but I have a lot of learning to do myself. If you have any suggestions on where to get started I would love it. Thanks Lindsey

  5. D’Net, I’ve been a subscriber and admirer of your site for a while. I really like the straight forward way your information is presented. I thought I would let you know that I’ve added you to the list of links from my website (howtopractise.com) and will also be doing a small write up on this site for my front page in the near future. In the meantime please have a look at my site – if you find it useful perhaps you’d like to add it to your blogroll :)

  6. Thanks for the kind words! I had a great time poking around your website – what a treasure trove it is! Now to apply what I read there… :-)

I have added you to the blog roll, and thanks for doing the same for me.

  7. Hello there,
You have a very helpful and useful site! I will definitely be looking at it more closely for ideas and helps here and there as I teach my piano lessons! I have created “The Piano Staff” as a place where music professionals can connect with others to share anything that goes on in their music world! It just seems like maybe you might be interested in something like this. :) I encourage you to join and begin sharing right away. You can post anything to your page that you think would be a help or inspiration to other music teachers! It is very interesting to get to know other professionals in our industry and glean from the wealth of knowledge that comes from years of teaching! I think you would enjoy the site, and we definitely would enjoy hearing your perspective and getting to know your musical successes! Hope to see you as a member of the Piano Staff soon! 8. Hi. I just want you to know I’ve used so many great ideas from your site, and appreciate all the hard work you’ve put into this page. Just wondering why I can no longer access your primary page? All that comes up is “Primary page” and I have been using your simplified songs for my students, but now can’t get to them. I will be happy to make a donation so they are available. Thanks for your help. I even had your page bookmarked but the page with “flip charts, simplified songs,” etc. no longer comes up.

  9. Hi, Ruth! My webpage, obviously, is having serious issues, and I can’t figure out what is wrong or how to fix it. So, I am rebuilding my website using a webdesign program that is current, instead of the 10 year old program I was using. Unfortunately, the learning curve is very steep. I am working on it, though, and hope to have it up and going again soon.

    Thanks for your patience!
